Drunk Driver Suspected in Fatal LA Motorcycle Accident
A Los Angeles man faces DUI, murder charges following a motorcycle accident that left another man dead.
According to police reports, 30-year-old Patrick Benton Traylor crashed his 2009 Toyota Camry into an oncoming motorcycle near the corner of Seventh and Olive Streets in downtown L.A. Police say Mr. Traylor turned directly into the motorcycle's path without warning. The collision, which occurred around 1:45 a.m. Monday morning, caused the victim to be ejected from his motorcycle and onto Mr. Traylor's car. The motorcyclist, 25-year-old David Mack of Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the LAPD, Mr. Traylor exhibited acute symptoms of intoxication and refused to submit to a breath test. Police obtained a warrant to draw a blood sample and Mr. Traylor was subsequently arrested for murder. Mr. Traylor was unharmed in the accident while a passenger in his vehicle was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
This fatal motorcycle accident unfortunately demonstrates how one person's carelessness can result in the death of an innocent victim. The suspected use of alcohol and/or drugs likely contributed to the driver's negligence in causing the accident. While the driver in this case faces serious criminal charges, he may also face civil penalties in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit. Under California law, the victim's family members may choose to seek damages for the death of their loved one. Hopefully, they will contact an experienced Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney to get help in protecting their rights.
